Water tank pumps are pressure pumps commonly used to deliver water to your house or garden. When you turn on your tap or outlet the pressure pump draws water from the tank and pushes the pressurised water to the outlet. Tank pumps can be either submersible pumps sitting inside the tank under the water or jet, centrifugal or multistage pumps which sit outside the water tank.
Your tank pump will draw energy every time it is turned on. There are a number of ways to reduce energy costs when choosing your tank pump.
1. Dont buy a pump which is bigger than required. A larger pump will result in higher electricity costs.
2. Reduce the amount of time your pump is operating. Set up a gravity feed system, a header tank system or add a pressure tank to your system.
Using a pressure tank means water is drawn from the pressure tank first before the pump turns on. The pump does not have to operate everytime a tap is turned on or the toilet is flushed. Resulting in a quieter, smoother system.
